5 stars and faves, especially since the music is GUNS N' F**IN' ROSES'!!your right. the siren failed to sound because of the ammount of radio traffic. And the tornado was at it's strongest in Andover. In fact something happened that was lost among coverage of the big one. When the tornado hit the countryside 3rd edition in andover it threw down another small tornado which hit the andover square shopping center and several other buildings in the area.

IIRC the tornado sirens were activated by a radio remote control unit that worked fine when tested. What was not taken into account was all the other radio traffic in the area on nearby civic channels due to the tornado threat. This created radio interference that kept the sirens from activating.

I almost fell off of my seat when I saw this video. My step-grandma Kathy Kinyon died in this tornado. They did get out fast enough, and she crouched in the hallway, and my aunt in the bathtub. My aunt got out alive but she had a broken leg, a fractured arm, the right side of her face had a fracture, and she had cuts like 6 inches long on her legs from glass. Whatever I can say, heed the warning. When the siren blows, get to safety.

I think that particular incident was documented in the VHS video "The Enemy Wind" that the Weather Channel put together in the early 90's. They even got an interview with the officer who had to drive through the trailer parks warning the residents as the tornado was fast approaching.
