well tha Mayan's knowledge of astrononmy was superior to the Europeans knowledge at the same time period. The doomsday stuff is other peoples interpretations of the Mayans, the Mayans themselves who do survive to this day generally expect to be around on December 22, 2012

The Mayans are also the people that believed the world had ended 5 times before and that the earth is actually a giant alligator. End in 2012...i don't think so.

I am not going to argue with you. But I will disagree with you. The Mayans did NOT have superior knowledge of astronomy. Most of their "knowledge" was based on their religious beliefs. If they were so good at foreseeing the end of the world, how come they couldn't see their own fall? High powered telescopes in space and robots venturing to distant planets in the modern day provides us with truly superior knowledge than beliefs in ancient gods, prophecies, etc. do. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

This reminds me of the book called "The Jupiter Project" which was written back in '74 when a couple of top notched scientist predicted that all the planets would aline with the earth with Jupiter causing a major gravitaional(spelling)pull of the earth which would cause widespread disaster(earthquakes, volcanos,tidal waves,etc.)in '82 on a global scale that could possible wipe out mankind. What year is it now(LOL)?
